Tiramisu

Helping my friend of 12 years to do up something for her boyfriend. :)

The heart is rather pretty! Just another of my impromptu ideas. Heehee, absolutely love drawing all these inspiration from the lives of everyone around me. Even though exams are drawing close, I'm still drawing hearts... But what can I say, it's a job hazard!

The swan glides gracefully along the water. But have you ever looked beneath?

Actually, don't bother. Ignorance is bliss, we can all live like that forever.
Keep calm and carry on.
I need some beer darling.

Tiramisu and the leap year

I rather like this Tiramisu recipe. Come to think of it, I rather like doing Tiramisu. Simple, easy and to the point. Makes people happy, makes me happy and takes little time.

Coffee liquor is exciting! Something really fun to work with. Tasted quite bad on its own though, albeit bitter and resentful.

On 290212, twenty years of my life taught me this one lesson:
Friends are like coffee with that dusted cocoa powder in the shape of hearts. Love and caffeine high.

You are what Tiramisu is.
2012. 29 Feb.
Much love, caffeine and alcohol high.

Tiramisu

I haven't done this for a while, and it's really sweet...

Nope, not the cake, just my friend's efforts in baking a cake for her boyfriend's birthday.

She said, "I have no talent in baking..." My dear, as long as it's from the heart, you don't need any talent.

Perhaps after an eventful journey to school, the cocoa powder got wet and the cheese melted. But still, I'm sure it's the best cake Gen's ever tasted.

I used the excess and made small little tiramisu cups, so that I could try what it tasted like! It's a different recipe from my previous one and I used a sponge cake instead of sponge fingers. In any case, it tasted GOOD! So I'm really glad for that. And tiramisu must be refrigerated, once it's out of the fridge, the taste, texture and appearance will see an exponential fall.

A guy said this to me when I said I had to rush home to bake because my friend's boyfriend was having his birthday, "Just go and buy... In the end guys just eat everything. Don't waste your efforts."
True, maybe it really doesn't matter to them. But I just wanted to see my friend smile.

Tiramisu

Did you know that the literal meaning of Tiramisu is ‘pick-me-up’ and that Venetian courtesans used to eat it before their gentlemen arrived for the evening because they believed it would give them the energy to make love all night?

On making this dessert whose roots goes all the way back to Italy, I got intrigued into its origins and significance and googled it. It is rumoured to have been invented in the 1600s, but some believe that its birth came about only in the 1900s.

Tiramisu contains raw eggs and whipped cream. This is an impossible combination in the past without the invention of the refrigerator. But I shall not dwell into the war of the history of Tiramisu.

The alcohol and caffaine in this dessert makes it an energy booster, hence its name Tiramisu, which translate into "pick-me-up". It is also said to have been named as it tastes so heavenly it feels as if the person eating it is being picked up into heaven.

To me, Tiramisu has always been a dessert associated with love and romance. There's just something intriguing and addictive about a good tiramisu that makes you want more. Even though it can be sinful, but there's no stopping once you've started. It's bitter and sweet at the same time, and leaves a lingering taste after each bite.

I made a very careless mistake with this tiramisu. I arranged the spongefingers in different directions! Hence it looked like this. Horrible presentation!

Made this for a night picnic tomorrow at the botanic gardens with my seniors. Hopefully it'll fit in with the atmosphere!

I didn't know Bacardi was Rum. With 35% alcohol content. I feel very boosted with a few bites of this dessert already. Caffaine and alcohol makes a dangerous combination!
